Dice Lounge Opening – Raising the Bar in Levenshulme
The recent history of the old ‘Railway Hotel’ pub has been one of quick turnovers and multiple business ventures. It’s been a print shop and a shisha joint that opened and closed in record time. There was even a proposal to turn it into another local college. The latest incarnation as Dice Lounge will take the building back to its original roots as a social meeting place and drinking establishment. This should please many people in the area. It’s ideally located at the centre of Levenshulme and a stones throw from the station and the nearby popular Levenshulme Market spot. A brave move and one that might just pay off.
When Does Dice Lounge Open?
Dice Lounge opens on Saturday 27th of February at 7pm to the public. It’s promising something exciting. Something we don’t yet have in Levenshulme. A cocktail lounge and champagne bar with a classy vibe in the evening, playing chilled tunes with a strong emphasis on customer service. Alongside a drinks selection which includes Tom Collins, Cosmo’s and Bottega Gold there will be Bluemoon and Wolfrock on tap. By day it will be a friendly meeting point with free wifi, Teapigs teas, Grizzly Bear coffee and cakes (including gluten free options) made by AiryFairy Cake Company based in nearby Didsbury. Savoury nibbles and snacks are in the pipeline too.
The makeover has been a painstaking affair for the new owners. Julie Williams, one of the partners explained that the building was in dire need of fixing up:
” The place was a mess, there were issues with the building. The whole ceiling fell down at one point! So it’s been a massive transformation.”
It’s clear to see as soon as you step through the doors that a huge amount of passion, tears and steely determination has gone into turning a dilapidated building into this shiny new venue. Toilets have been built from scratch, walls have been skimmed to perfection, a new kitchen area has been built.
What’s The Vibe?
The attention to detail is superb. They have fitted out the space with a large bar area, a lobby, a bookable VIP lounge and plenty of group booths. The walls are adorned with ornate mirrors, the ceilings are blinged with chandeliers and the plush padded seating makes you feel like you’re in a swanky city centre establishment.
“We’re not in town but there’s no reason we can’t create a similar experience in Levenshulme. We intend to focus on staff, making sure we get the right level of customer service and make people feel welcome. I’ve travelled to America a lot and always valued that you can go into a bar on your own and not feel alone. I want customers to feel empowered. I want our staff to make you feel happy.”
Dice Lounge is very much a learning curve and new challenge, with both owners previous experience in events and promotions. They are taking a punt on Levenshulme as an area and are aiming to carve out a niche. As an establishment they will be very receptive to local opinion, from music to bar snacks. There’ll even be a little black suggestion box for punters to add their voice to the mix.
They aim to have the back yard space spruced and opened by the Summer, which will be a real treat for people regularly longing for more sunshine drinking spaces locally.
Opening Times and Location
Dice Lounge will open from 11 am to 11pm Tuesday to Saturday and from 12pm on Sundays. It is located at 936 – 938 Stockport Road, on the junction of Albert Road. Pop in and say hello.
