Levenshulme Arcadia – A Guide to the New Facilities
Levenshulme Arcadia, the newly appointed Leisure centre and Library, will open on 20th February 2016. Mental stimulation and physical well being are two of the most important human functions in existence and as such, it is no wonder the people of Levenshulme have fought hard to ensure the future of both within this new community facility. Here we detail the essential information for the future users of our recreation site.
A Large Range of Modern Facilities
Levenshulme Arcadia is a new joint service centre, funded by Manchester City Council and operated by Better Leisure. This means that it serves a multipurpose function within our community. It contains a Library and a Leisure centre, spread over two floors.
What facilities does Levenshulme Arcadia have?
- 2 swimming pools (a four lane, 25 metre pool and a smaller 17 metre pool with privacy option)
- A state of the art, 60 piece gymnasium and health suite.
- 1 sauna (12 persons)
- 1 steam room (12 persons)
- A community studio
- Ground floor viewing area and lobby
- Neighbourhood Library
Community Studio and Gym
The community studio and gym area are based on the first floor and are accessible by lift or stairs. The studio is intended for fitness classes as well as community events, activities and meetings all bookable at reception. The gym will be accessible via either a pay-as-you-go service or with a membership.
The swimming pools are free for the over 60’s all year round and for the under 17’s during the school holidays. There is a pay-as-you-go fee for other users or you can choose from a range of memberships.
The Library will be on the ground floor and is a free service for all. It has free wifi, a new suite of PCs, a dedicated children’s library as well as a designated study area and comfy, modern seating. There will be a large selection of books to choose from. The Library will be partially staffed but opened for self service borrowing when the centre is also open.
In and around the new Arcadia
In addition, there are vending machines in the lobby, multiple car parking spaces and ample bike storage outside. The planting of shrubs and trees in the space around the site is under way to encourage more green spaces on the high street in Levenshulme.
